NUS and Google Start New AI Research Centre

The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Google have started a new research centre to work on real-life uses of artificial intelligence (AI). The goal is to bring new ideas into education, law, and public health, while also training the next group of AI experts in Singapore.

The centre will have a modern testing lab using Google Cloud’s special computer chips. This will let researchers build and test AI tools safely online before they are used in real life. At the start, the research will focus on three main areas. In education, they will use Google’s Vertex AI to build innovative learning tools and personal AI study helpers to support learning at all ages. In law, NUS experts will create an AI tool trained on Singapore’s legal system to make legal research easier and more accurate. This new centre is an important step in growing Singapore’s AI knowledge and skills.
