OAU Faces Lawsuit Over Post-UTME Dispute

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been threatened with legal action due to alleged irregularities in its 2025/2026 Post-UTME exercise.

Alex Onyia, CEO of Educare, through the legal chambers of F.K. Nnadi & Co, issued a pre-action notice to the institution. He is demanding justice for students who claim they were unfairly treated during the admission screening.

The petition, dated September 11, accused OAU of awarding candidates unjustifiably low scores despite their strong UTME performances. It also alleged that some students’ results were withheld without explanation, casting doubts on the transparency of the process.

Onyia described the university’s stance as “denialist and bullish,” stressing that litigation has become the only option since management ignored earlier complaints. Lawyers representing the affected students argue that the actions of OAU undermine fairness, breach natural justice, and threaten the future of young Nigerians seeking higher education. The university has yet to respond to the allegations publicly.
