Former Anambra State governor, Mr Peter Obi, has donated N15 million to the Dental Students Association of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Obi announced on his official X handle, stating that the funds are aimed at upgrading the department’s laboratory and increasing its graduation and induction quota, in line with its re-accreditation requirements.
He said the donation followed a request from the association, which had appealed for N40 million to meet urgent infrastructure needs. The former governor explained that he delayed making the donation public out of respect for the recent national mourning over the death of a former president.
Obi, who visited the department personally, described the intervention as part of his commitment to education and healthcare development. He criticised the country’s leadership for neglecting critical sectors. “We cannot continue to allow young people to suffer due to leadership failure,” he said, adding that spending on luxuries while education and health suffer reflects misplaced priorities. He urged increased investment in youth-focused sectors to secure the nation’s future.
