Auchi Poly Students Slam Obi Over Death Claim

NAPS President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan lambasted Mr. Obi for misleading Nigerians with inflammatory and fictitious utterances

Students of Auchi Polytechnic have accused Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, of spreading false information about alleged student deaths in the school. The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) said Obi’s social media post claiming students were killed is “completely untrue.”

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, NAPS President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, confirmed that while some students suffered minor injuries from teargas during a recent student union election, no one died or was hospitalised.

NAPS challenged Obi to name the supposed victims and apologised for using students’ pain for political gain. They gave him 72 hours to publish a public apology in four national newspapers or face nationwide protests and media campaigns. They also called for investigations into the conduct of security officials at the polytechnic, asking for disciplinary action and justice for the affected students. Obi has yet to respond to the allegations.
