Seplat Energy Gives Three New STEAM Labs to Schools in Edo State

The NEPL/Seplat Energy Joint Venture has announced its commitment to developing education in Edo State. The company is committed to opening three new modern STEAM labs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) in Benin City.  These labs were handed over to the Edo State Ministry of Education on Friday. They are in Niger College, Army Day Secondary School, and Oba Akenzua Secondary School.

These new labs join three others already set up at Ihogbe College, New Era College, and Edo Boys High School. This demonstrates how Seplat Energy is making efforts to enhance school facilities in the communities where it operates. Chioma Afe, who handles External Affairs at Seplat Energy, thanked the Edo State government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, for creating a conducive environment for educational projects. She said the STEAM labs will help students think better, solve problems, and be creative, preparing them for today’s world.

Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, Edo State Commissioner for Education, spoke on behalf of the governor and thanked Seplat for their prompt and strong support for education. He told students and teachers to use the new labs carefully so they last longer.

Paul Omenogor from NEPL also encouraged schools to take good care of the labs, as this would help bring more support in the future. The Edo State Commissioner for Mining, Oil and Gas, Andrew Ijegbai, praised the partnership for helping the government’s plan to improve education.

School principals expressed their satisfaction with the new labs, describing them as a significant aid to teaching and learning. The labs come equipped with modern computers, internet access, and specialised materials, and they will transform the way STEM and arts subjects are taught. This fits with Seplat Energy’s goal to grow future innovators and creative leaders. Many education experts, company officials, school staff, and community leaders attended the opening ceremony.
