The Sokoto State Government has cleared over ₦500 million in unpaid tuition fees, securing the release of certificates for students it sponsored to study at Integral University, India. The debt was inherited from the previous administration.
Deputy Governor Idris Mohammed Gobir presented certificates to two Master’s degree graduates and stated that 18 others had received theirs earlier. The final set of documents was handed over last week by the university’s Vice Chancellor, marking the end of a long wait for the students.
Gobir urged the graduates to use their knowledge to develop Sokoto State. He also visited the family of late Osama Mustapha Lanas, a First-Class graduate who died shortly after completing his studies. Osama had memorised the Qur’an while at the university. On behalf of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, officials presented Osama’s certificate to his family. The PDP chairman, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, thanked the government and joined in prayers for the late scholar.
