Stakeholders have urged the Federal Government to integrate anti-human trafficking studies into the curriculum of colleges of education across Nigeria to curb the rising menace.
The call was made at a one-day Step-Down Training of Trainers on Anti-Human Trafficking for over 70 lecturers from colleges of education in Asaba, Delta State.
Mrs Ijeoma David-Ukoko, Delta State Project Officer of the Schools Anti-Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project (STEAP), said the move would equip undergraduates with knowledge to avoid falling victim to traffickers.
The training, organised by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), is part of a four-year project funded by the Government of the Netherlands.
David-Ukoko explained that lecturers were being empowered to pass on the knowledge to students, while also pushing for its formal integration into the curriculum.
