The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has completed a long-abandoned international conference centre at Bayero University Kano (BUK), 15 years after construction began.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, said the multi-purpose facility, which was left unfinished for over a decade, has now been delivered as part of the agency’s drive to complete abandoned projects across Nigerian universities. The new International Conference Centre (ICC) includes 38 accommodation rooms, event halls, and open spaces designed to meet global standards.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Echono said the completion reflects President Bola Tinubu’s “renewed hope agenda” aimed at strengthening institutions and making Nigerian universities globally competitive. “This centre will serve as a hub for conferences, attract visitors, and generate revenue for the university,” Echono said, describing the project as “iconic.”
BUK Vice Chancellor, Professor Adamu Abbas, welcomed the development and thanked TETFund for its intervention. He urged the incoming university leadership to ensure proper maintenance and effective use of the facility.
