The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) says the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has put in place safety measures for students travelling by boat in riverine communities.
UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba said she was briefed on the measures during a visit to the Smart School in Badagry. They include the use of life jackets, routine boat maintenance and the presence of security personnel along the waterways. Thus, the initiative is aimed at protecting pupils who rely on boat transport to access schools.
