The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has begun discussions with the Police Service Commission (PSC) to train police officers and investigators in forensic and DNA studies. This training aims to improve their skills in solving crimes and civil cases.
The university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Osubor, led the UNIBEN team to Abuja for the talks on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Omoregie. Prof. Eddy Ehikhamenor, Director of the Forensics and DNA Centre, explained how this training can help police utilise new technology to combat crime more effectively. PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, a forensic expert himself, welcomed the idea, saying this knowledge will help the police and the commission handle complex criminal cases. He established a team to collaborate with UNIBEN on implementing the training and creating a formal agreement. The UNIBEN team included other top officials from the forensic centre and public relations.
