CONUA Reaffirms Rejection of Strike in Universities

The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has reiterated its opposition to the use of strikes as a means of engagement in public universities, arguing that such actions do not yield sustainable solutions.

This was contained in a statement by the National President, Dr Niyi Sunmonu, and made available to Vanguard on Sunday.

According to the union, the decision was reaffirmed after a series of congresses held by its branches nationwide between September 18 and 24, 2025.

The statement added that CONUA’s leadership had earlier met with the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, on September 11, 2025, after which the meeting’s outcome was shared with members, informing deliberations at the congresses.

CONUA insisted that it would continue to uphold dialogue and constructive engagement rather than resorting to strike actions as a means of resolving disputes.
