Professor Oluwatoyin Morenike Ukpong of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been elected West Africa Representative on the Board of the Society for AIDS in Africa.
Ukpong, a professor of dentistry, is known for her research in adolescent health, HIV/AIDS, and bioethics. She has worked with international organisations including the World Health Organisation, UNAIDS, and the Population Council. She has authored more than 260 peer-reviewed publications and has played a role in establishing adolescent clinics for HIV/AIDS care.
OAU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, described her election as recognition of her contributions to global health.
