The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to corps employers to be more generous in their treatment of corps members, saying such support would motivate them to remain in their states of posting and perform better at their primary places of assignment.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, appealed the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Bauchi. He noted that employers could show generosity by providing transport refunds for corps members or picking them up from camp, as well as offering decent accommodation or allowances instead of accommodation.
“Such gestures encourage corps members to deliver effective service,” he said. Nafiu, who was represented by Agatha Banki, Director of the North-East Area Office 1, Bauchi, explained that the annual workshop serves as a platform for the NYSC and employers to share ideas that improve the scheme’s operations.
He urged participants to recommend strategies for a stronger and more sustainable partnership. Bauchi State NYSC Coordinator, Umoren Kufre, said collaboration with employers was vital for maximising the scheme’s impact. The workshop, themed “Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers’ Partnership for Improved Mutual Benefit,” featured discussions on best practices for boosting corps members’ welfare and productivity.
