The Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Governing Council has appointed Prof. Haruna Musa, the current Deputy Vice Chancellor (VC), as the 12th VC of the University after a thorough election process.
According to a letter signed by Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the BUK Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, Musa’s appointment takes effect on August 18, 2025.
Musa, appointed for a single term of five years, got 853 votes in the governing council’s election. He won over Prof. Mahmoud Umar Sani (former Deputy VC, Management Services) and Prof. Sani Muhammad Gumel (former Deputy VC, Academics), who had 367 and 364 votes, respectively. Other candidates include Prof. Adamu Idris Tanko (former DVC for Academics and Administration), who received 161 votes, and Prof. Bashir Fagge, who garnered only 18 votes.
