The Sokoto State Government plans to change its scholarship rules by making sponsored students work for the state for at least 15 years after they graduate.
Deputy Governor Idris Gobir shared this plan during a visit from the Sokoto Professionals Association. He said the goal is to protect the state’s spending on education and make sure students give back to their home state before moving elsewhere. “This is to ensure our investment in education is not wasted. Those we support must also support the system that helped them.” He also asked the professionals to guide and mentor young people in Sokoto, especially in careers with good job opportunities. The association’s chairman, Zayyanu Yabo, said they have already trained many youths in leadership, business, and ICT. He promised to support the state government in building a better future for Sokoto’s youths through skills and job development.
