The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has urged the government to address staff shortages and pay all outstanding entitlements owed to its members. Following a meeting in Abuja, NAMDA President Dr Nosa Orhue stated that the poor treatment of medical lecturers is harming Nigeria’s health and education systems.
He demanded the payment of salaries withheld since the 2022 university strike, stressing that NAMDA is not part of ASUU and should not be punished for ASUU’s actions. NAMDA also called for fair hazard allowances, better pensions for professors, and a ₦3 million monthly salary, like what Nigerian doctors earn under government-backed jobs in St. Lucia.
The group requested that the government reverse an unfair salary circular and correct the pay imbalances for doctors. NAMDA gave a 15-day deadline for action and warned of a possible strike. It also backed the Nigerian Medical Association’s 21-day ultimatum to the government.
